In late October 2023 the MRA announced that they are appealing the decision of the Superior Court to the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  

We will robustly defend the decision of the Superior Court judge, which showed that the MRA failed in their bid for a “special use” permit on legal, substantive, and due process grounds.  It is all unfortunate, but this requires another round of significant legal work.  We wish we could work together with the MRA for a win-win solution, but they are not (yet) willing to have this conversation with us.

We need support to cover these legal costs.  Thank you so much for any support, at any level, that you may be able to provide.

Donations should be made through our fiscal sponsor, the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County (PSABC).  All donations are fully tax-deductible.  The PSABC supports the work of the Montreat Stewards and is graciously charging no fee for this service: 100% of donations go to the work of Montreat Stewards.
